Friday night Kiddush is used to “sanctify (make holy) the Sabbath”.

Part 1 – HaShem blessed the seventh day and hallowed it.

The words “Yom HaShihi” complete Gen 1:31, the end of the six days of creation. VaiChulu begins Bereshit (Genesis 2:1) and this part ends with Bereshit 2:3.

Part 2 – The standard blessing over the Fruit of the Vine. Wine or grape juice is used to sanctify almost every Jewish occasion. Sephardic Jews use the word “Ha-GEFEN” while Ashkenaz Jews uses the word “Ha-GAFEN”.

Part 3 – People Israel are Sanctified, Shabbat a remembrance of creation.
